Who we are and what we do
Internal Doors Newcastle is a local business that supplies and fits internal doors. That covers oak doors, white and painted doors, glazed doors, certified fire doors, bifolds, sliding and pocket doors, plus the frames, linings, architrave and handles that go with them.
You can buy your doors through us and have them fitted in one job, or buy them yourself and book us to hang them. Most of our customers are homeowners in and around Newcastle, but we also look after landlords, letting agents and small businesses that need doors replaced or upgraded.
Why we only do doors
Doors tend to be an afterthought on bigger building jobs. They go in at the end, when everyone is in a hurry, and you can see it afterwards. Keeping our work to doors and their fittings means we get the small things right every time.
The homes we work in
Newcastle has a real mix of housing, and each type brings its own challenges. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in areas like Heaton and Jesmond often have openings that are out of square or a non-standard size. Tyneside flats can have uneven floors between rooms. Newer estates usually have standard metric openings but lighter linings that need careful fixing. Knowing what to expect in each one helps us quote accurately and avoid surprises on the day.

Signs of a badly fitted door
Most people know a door feels wrong long before they can say why. These are the faults we’re asked to put right most often, and the reason we take so much care with every opening:
- Gaps that are wide at the top and tight at the bottom, or the other way round.
- A latch that only catches if you lift or push the door.
- Doors that drift open or swing shut on their own because the hinges aren’t in line.
- Hinges sitting proud of the wood instead of recessed flush.
- Bare, unsealed edges on oak doors that let the timber take on moisture and move.
- Doors cut too short for the flooring, leaving a large draughty gap underneath.
Each of these comes down to measuring and trimming. We check every lining for level and plumb before a door is cut, and we hang each door to suit its own opening rather than assuming they’re all the same size.

Honest advice before you spend money
We would rather talk you out of something than fit a door that doesn’t suit the room. A few examples of the advice we give regularly:
- A hollow core door is perfectly fine for an airing cupboard, but a solid core door is quieter on a bedroom or home office.
- If your existing linings are sound and square, you don’t need new ones. We’ll only suggest replacement where it makes a visible difference.
- A pocket door needs a stud wall or a wall being rebuilt. In solid brick, a surface-mounted sliding door is usually the better option.
- Unfinished oak is cheaper to buy, but it needs sealing on every face and edge, so pre-finished oak can work out simpler.
- A glazed door can brighten a dark hallway, but on a protected stairway in a three-storey house it may need to be a fire-rated glazed door.
If you’re still weighing up looks and upkeep, our guide to oak vs white internal doors is a good place to start.
Fire doors and rental properties
We supply and fit fire doors for loft conversions, flats and houses in multiple occupation. The doors and components we supply come certified by the manufacturer, and we fit them to the manufacturer’s instructions and test evidence, including the specified hinges, intumescent seals and closers. A fire door only performs as tested when it is fitted correctly, so this is not an area where we cut corners.
For landlords, we can survey several properties, work through actions from a fire risk assessment and provide one combined, itemised quote. Read more on our fire doors page.

Questions about us
Are you a general building firm?
No. We concentrate on internal doors, frames, architrave and door hardware. If your project also needs plastering, electrics or joinery beyond the doorway, you’ll need another trade for that part of the work.
Is your quote free?
Yes. Quotes are free and there’s no obligation to go ahead. You’ll get a fixed, written price by email, so you can compare it properly and take your time deciding.
Do you work for landlords and businesses as well as homeowners?
Yes. Alongside homes, we fit doors in rental flats, HMOs, offices and other commercial premises. Our landlord and commercial page explains how those jobs are organised.
Ready to talk about your doors?
Send us a few details and we’ll reply with a clear, itemised quote. There’s no pressure and no obligation.
